Gayatri Mantra (Savitr) 108 Repetitions

this has to be one of my favorite mantras if you cant see the words on the video “ooOMmm bhur bhuvah suva-ha tat savitur vareṇyaṃ bhargo de-vasya dhimahi dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayat” “We meditate on the glory of that Being who has produced this universe; may He enlighten our minds.” -Swami Vivekananda “We meditate on the adorable glory of the radiant sun; may he inspire our intelligence.” -Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Savitar or Savitr represents the sun, but not our sol, but the sun of suns, from which all knowledge, illumination and enlightment comes from. this sample is from “GAYATRI MANTRA” by Ravi Shankar download mp3: www.mediafire.com

out of curiosity, has anyone listened to this mantra and experienced some sort of overwhelming emotional response? cuz i have and I’m not sure what to make of it

  2. Lampwealth says:

The correct word is “Suvaha”…. The Gayatri pervades the three worlds of Bhoo, Bhuva and Suva
Each of these words are followed by the sound of breath being expelled ….Ha

When concanated it becomes Bhoo r , Bhuva ha , Suva ha

  3. davidfranciskennedy2 says:

    both.

  4. MegaE5150 says:

There is a small difference in this version. some of the youtube versons are saying “Svaha” but this one is saying “Suvaha”. Which one is correct?

my personal style understand everything. I believe

  12. neerajmjj says:

Yes the vedic meaning have become corrupted because people has stop learning. And it will become even more corrupted if we don’t learn Sanskrit. That’s why I believe, we should learn it before it disappears completely. The situation is already bad, let’s not make it worse!!

  13. ajuba1 says:

My personal understanding is knowing the meaning to begin chanting and meditatiing is not required. the meanings will revel itself. Meditating on the mantra is even more important since all the vedic meanings have become corrupted today. Like for example pashuvan means holder of lot of cows but intodays sense means having a lot of disposable income.

Without the Knowledge of Sanskrit, you cannot understand the prayers you do!!! Learn Sanskrit to understand the prayers!!! Just repeating isn’t enough, you should understand what you say to Shiva. Read the Vedas, that’s what is most important!!, Bhagavat Geeta is just part of Hinduism. thumbs up so that everybody can see it.

    1. Is this mantra to be chanted daily??
This mantra is jewel/king of all mantra. It is said that if a person misses to chant it even a single day, he is no more Brahman(Godly man).
    2. The mental Chanting is best chanting & can be done anytime, any posture.
    3. Morning 4-6am. Evening While sunset.

  18. Photon98 says:

As a final note, core of all Sadhnas (Penance) in hinduism is self-purification and righteous conduct which comes from wisdom. If anyone aim something else, then it is just waste of God’s grace.

  19. Photon98 says:

    continue…

    2. The chanter should be like Vishwamitra. The word Vishwamitra mean the “The friend of the World” who cares about well-being of whole world and not greedy wicked minds.
No other misconduct, greedy, immoral can ever gain the power of mantra.

  20. Photon98 says:

This mantra is prohibited by its great sage named “VASHISHTHA” and “Vishwamitra” because of misuse. They placed two conditions for full power use :
    1. The chanter should be like Vashishtha. The word vashishtha in sanskrit means “Someone Very Special” means who have chanted it about 12500000 times

108 is special number in Hindu Rituals because
    1. There are total 108 Upnishads (Hindu Books of Wisdoms and Foundation) (Most Influential Books Ever Written: Martin Seymour)
    2. 12 Sun Sign multiply by 9 Planets = 108
    3. 108 = 54 Guna (Properties) of creation + 54 Guna of destruction of Universe
    4. 10800 Lines of text in Rigveda => 108
    and many other belief.
